Career Path to Your Current Position

I had to start the damn thing.

Tell us something unique about how you (your company) do your business

We are a data-driven platform with a strong, consultative approach

Attributes you typically look for in a candidate applying to your firm

Passionate about success and an entrepreneurial spirit, capable of critical thinking, optimistic and outgoing attitude, no tw@ts

What has been your biggest career challenge?

Lehman Shock was a bit of a rough ride

What goals do you have for the coming year?

Building out our new talent advisory solutions and expanding the number of clients signed on regional agreements for our different service offerings.

Tell us one change you would be very happy to see happen related to recruitment in Japan

I`d like to see greater collaboration between firms and industry best practices being shared. We should drop the ego and create a stronger market for each other, not just try and score points off the competition.

Any random thoughts you`d like to share about the Japan TA/Recruitment market?

Adversity, such as a global pandemic, enables businesses to rapidly evolve and transform – the first executive search firm in the world was born out of the Great Depression in the 1930s.

Any random thoughts you`d like to share about the Japan TA/Recruitment market?

Whatever they try and tell you, Japan is still unique and we get paid for doing some of the hardest yards in the industry. Don’t undersell yourself or your services.

Hobbies: How do you decompress outside of the job?

I smash a rubber ball at a wall as hard as I can repeatedly – you may know it also referred to as a game of squash.

Most Memorable Placement Story

In two decades, there have been quite a few. We used to do some fun Jim Rockford style-stuff back in the day (Google it kids); placing the Global CIO for one of the largest trading houses in the world, where the final three candidates were in London, Sao Paolo and Papua New Guinea was kind of fun.

If you hadn`t gone into recruitment what would you have been?

An extra on the Rockford Files (yes, I liked that show growing up, deal with it).

Your last meal on earth, what would it be?

That all depends what they are serving on Mars, where presumably my SpaceX flight is departing for the next day?

Tell us an unusual fact about yourself that your friends might not already know.

I am a pretty good recruiter (most of my friends complain that I have never placed them – hard to make pearls out of swine!)
